The Danube Delta is the largest wetlands natural reserve area in Europe covering a space of 2.681 km2. In 1990 UNESCO included the Danube Delta, which is the newest landform in Romania and because of that not touched by the progress of industrialization, among the biospheres reservations. The Danube Delta is an exotic land with over 1200 plants and trees species and around 300 species of birds such as colonies of pelicans and and 100 species of fish including herrings and sturgeon from which the precious caviar is obtained.

Transportation
For transportation there are 2 boat transports on regulate intervals that leave from a dock in Tulcea about 200 meters away from the main parking place next to the Vehicle Station there.
There is also the possibility of a passanger boat belonging to Navrom S.A. Tulcea company which completes the route in around 4 hours but provides a bar, a restaurant all for a price of aprox 7 euro. Departure for this boat is at 13:30. The extra time with this ship you can spend sight seeing . All of the above timetable may change as well as prices so please inform before arriveing in Tulcea.
For fast transportation there are more boats that departure according to the next timetable:12:00 boat Sf. Gheorghe (phone 0749909472), 13:30 boat Diana (0747014190), 18:00 boat Polesie (0743035223). They all reach Sulina in about 70 minutes and the price is aprox 45 RON.
